Safflower Dyeing

As part of my research into the Japanese dress history I looked into the traditional dyeing methods like safflower dyeing. I wanted to experiment creating different shades of colours using the same batch of dye, this was to replicate the 'kasane no irome' technique. After soaking the safflower petals in water and straining the dye I submerged fabric at different time intervals to create various shades of yellow.
