Making and Tailoring
Originally set on being a designer, it wasn't until after I finished my BA I found that I made more use of my tailoring and pattern drafting abilities to complete freelance and personal work rather than my design skills. I realised I had taken for granted the importance of making skills and went into my MA with the intention of improving and bettering myself as a maker. After completing my research books I knew I want to recreate a traditional historical garment using modern methods such as machine sewing, sublimation printing and machine embroidery. Originally overwhelmed with the accuracy needed to be a maker, I believe the combination of my freelance tailoring and my final MA project has allowed me to finesse my pattern drafting, garment alteration and constructions skills and gain the confidence I needed to follow a career involving costume and garment making.
