A recreation of a Traditional Japanese Jūnihitoe - considered the origin of the kimono - made using modern construction methods.
c. 794 - 1185 (Heian Period)
The completed costume consists of a kosode, nagabakama, hitoe, uchigi, uwagi, karaginu and mo. The uchigi was made with sustainable bamboo silk which was dyed to create a layered colour effect, known as 'Kasane No Irome'. The outermost layers (uwagi, karaginu, mo) were all digitally printed with hand drawn designs based on traditional Heian Period patterns.
